Digital Digest 20.08.10

Hello, good afternoon and welcome to the second edition of EHS 4D Digital Digest. This week has seen a wave of football related marketing in line with the start of the Premier League with Sky battling with, well, everyone over who has the most channels and lots of talk about Facebook’s latest attempt to tighten its grip on the wonderful world of social media. As always we hope that you enjoy the mix of interesting and downright cool things below.

Gucci Guilty

First up is a simply beautiful film for Gucci’s new fragrance, directed by legendary graphic novelist Frank Miller. Even though they have registered www.gucciguilty.com, it diverts straight to their Facebook page where you can watch the film, enter competitions and even purchase gifts. Very cool.

History of the internet infographic

Not sure if everyone is the same as me, but I love a good infographic and this is a very good one. Tracking key innovations and points in the history of the internet this shows how the internet came about and who were the driving forces. Who knew that Pizza Hut had been offering online ordering since 1994?!

Puma gets social

Whilst Nike and Adidas have been rolling out their expensively produced superstar packed epic short films/adverts, Puma have quietly been putting together a very clever and cool social campaign. Its theme revolves around the idea of the after hours athlete and the fun people get up to in the twilight hours. Check out the very cool launch video below and the social site here

Facebook pages

There has been a lot said about the new Facebook location based app since its launch on Wednesday, not least about the fact that the logo appears to be a ‘4’ in a square (tip of the cap to the branding guys on that one). Facebook places tells us that it is a facility to share where you are and to find friends nearby, and obviously for brands to try and sell us things. Here are the ‘5 Things You Need To Know About Facebook Places Right Now’ from Social Media Today and an overview of what it means for brands from Contagious Magazine. I also stumbled upon this nice infographic about called Facebook, By The Numbers which makes quite interesting reading.

Sony music – Lissie

Sony Music London has created an interactive music video for American artist Lissie that adds a little context to your viewing experience. Produced by Simon Poon Tip, who you might remember from such music videos as Kasabian Football Hero, it utilises a Google Maps API, a live weather feed and the optional ability to geo-locate you Enemy of the State style through the magic of HTML5. It was built by developers Half Cyborg, London.

There is no success like failure

For all of their dominance in, well pretty much everything they do, it has not always been so for the folks in Mountain View. This article details some of their less than successful ventures.

This week we have mainly been loving this site….geocaching.com

Very cool update of the traditional treasure hunt.

This week we have mainly been listening to….Skream, Outside the box

This week we have mainly been listening to…. Skream ‘Outside the box’

Not falling into the usual second album syndrome synonymous with many of his peers, Skream delivers an epic journey through dubstep, drum and bass. You can read what Skream himself has to say here, and the BBC review here.

See you next week,

Robin
